GFiber breaks ground in Cibolo

CIBOLO, Texas — GFiber officially broke ground Aug. 11 on its high-speed fiber optic network in Cibolo, marking a major milestone in expanding reliable internet access across the city.

The groundbreaking event, held at the Cibolo City Hall Annex, brought together GFiber representatives, Mayor Kara Latimer, City Manager, Wayne Reed, Schertz-Cibolo-Selma Area Chamber of Commerce CEO, Maggie Titterington, and members of the Cibolo City Council. The ceremony marked the start of construction on GFiber’s network, which will deliver fast, reliable internet service to residents and businesses throughout Cibolo once complete.

John-Michael Cortez, head of government and community affairs at GFiber, emphasized the company’s investment in Cibolo and its partnership with a city focused on vision and people.

“Cibolo has experienced tremendous growth while preserving the welcoming, neighborly spirit that makes this community such a special place to live and raise a family,” Cortez said. “We’re proud to partner with a city that believes in thoughtful growth while never losing sight of the people and businesses that make this community special.”

When fully operational, GFiber’s network will provide residents with reliable, high-speed internet service and reinforce the city’s focus on infrastructure that supports long-term growth and economic success.

“Reliable, high-speed internet has become essential to modern life,” Mayor Kara Latimer said. “It supports education, healthcare, entrepreneurship, remote work and economic development while helping communities remain competitive. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to thoughtful growth, innovation and creating opportunities for both today’s residents and future generations.”

Chamber of Commerce leaders said the investment also strengthens Cibolo’s position as a competitive destination for business growth.

“One of our priorities is creating an environment where businesses can grow, innovate and succeed. Investments like this help make that possible,” CEO of the Schertz-Cibolo-Selma Area Chamber of Commerce, Maggie Titterington said. “As Cibolo continues to welcome new employers, new residents and new opportunities, investments in infrastructure like GFiber strengthen our community's ability to compete while maintaining the hometown character that makes Cibolo unique.”

GFiber’s expansion to Cibolo was approved by the City Council in October 2024. Construction will continue throughout 2026, with service becoming available as portions of the network are completed.
