SUMMARY:Kick Cancer Pep Rally and 5k Run
DESCRIPTION:Join the City of Schertz at the new Kick Cancer Pep Rally and 5K Run\, formerly the Wilenchik Walk for Life\, on Saturday\, March 7 as the community comes together to rally in support of the many cancer research programs of the UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center.\n\nIn 2009\, the City hosted the inaugural 5K event in honor of former Schertz City Councilmember Tony Wilenchik. Tony was diagnosed in 2004 with Stage-4 Leiomyosarcoma\, a rare cancer. Tony's determination to face the disease head-on helped the City create a fund-raising event to help research cures for cancer. Through 2019\, more than $178\,000.00 has been raised and donated to the UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center to aid in their research.\n\nKick Cancer will allow participants to celebrate cancer research\, remember family members lost to cancer\, and honor those still fighting. Now at a new location\, the 5K Chip-timed Run\, 5K Walk\, and 1K Kids Run will be held in Pickrell Park.
